The second inmate welding program will be offered again in 2020.
Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Larry Wickert told Starke County government leaders last week that a local industry leader is teaming up again with the Starke County Sheriff’s Office, Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall, and the SCILL Center to make this program available to inmates.
The program was offered last year where a handful of trustees successfully completed the program. At the time, Judge Hall shared the goal is to transition inmates from incarceration to employment.
Last year’s program allowed inmates to work onsite in an area two days a week to give the trustees the skills they need to become productive members of society.
Wickert said the program details are being finalized with the program beginning in January. He didn’t say how many trustees will be a part of the second offering of the program.
