Single-Vehicle Crash in Rural LaPorte County Injures Michigan City Man

A Michigan City man was hurt when a car apparently left the road and hit two trees in rural LaPorte County. Sheriff’s deputies say it happened around 3:45 Saturday morning in the 3900 block of North County Road 100 West.

Police say that when they arrived, they found an injured man lying on the ground near the heavily-damaged car’s passenger side, but they couldn’t find the driver, even after a thorough search of the area. Jemale C. Nichols, 39, was airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment of an upper body injury.

The sheriff’s office’s Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called in to assist. Anyone with information directly related to the crash is asked to call the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office at 219-326-7700.

The LaPorte City Police Department, the Center and Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Departments, LaPorte County EMS, and Memorial Medflight assisted at the scene.
