The Starke County Commissioners plan to add language to an existing ordinance that regulates burning in the unincorporated areas of the county.
The commissioners previously discussed action by residents who are burning leaves on county roads. This damages roads and it often times becomes costly to repair.
In an effort to preserve the county’s roads, the commissioners asked County Attorney Marty Lucas to include wording in the county’s burn ordinance to prohibit residents from burning leaves or any item on county roads. By doing this, violators would be subject to the penalties and fines already outlined in the law.
The amended ordinance will be provided to the commissioners for approval in January.
