Starke County EMS Director Travis Clary is looking to hire a full-time paramedic and a full-time EMT to help staff the ambulances.
Clary said with revenues up with the transfer ambulance unit at Starke Hospital, he’s able to hire two more full-time staff members to help staff ambulance shifts, including the transfer unit. He’s unable to find some part-time people available to fill in for shifts, so two more employees will be able to fill in gaps.
Clerk Mary Lynn Ritchie noted that hiring full-time staff members will be less expensive when it comes to paying overtime.
The commissioners approved the request and the county council will consider the request on Dec. 16.
Clary said he hopes to fill those positions in January.
