Company Working on Knox Wastewater Treatment Facility to Start Mobilization

The company expected to work on upgrades to the Knox Wastewater Treatment Plant plans to start mobilizing equipment soon.

The Knox Board of Works members learned last week that a construction trailer will be parked at the plant in order to get ready for the project. Thieneman Construction was awarded a bid to upgrade the plant’s headworks and pre-treatment system.  The bid was just over $1.6 million.

Currently, the pumps are wearing down as grit and debris are getting into the pumps before it gets to the screening system. The screens are also in bad shape with rust from highly corrosive wastewater.

The city will use funds from the sale of bonds to fund the upgrades in addition to money appropriated for the project, and a $700,000 matching grant through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
