Knox Elementary School is once again adjusting its student drop-off procedures. Principal Michelle Tarnow told the school board Tuesday that parents are no longer allowed to drop students off at the circle drive.
“Circle drive was the place where parents would park and then physically walk their students to the door,” Tarnow explained, “and what was happening is cars were really just kind of dropping and going. Cars were going pretty quickly. We had special ed buses who were dropping off all the way at the kindergarten end, and those kids were having to walk much farther.”
She said that led to unsafe conditions, with several near misses between pedestrians and vehicles. Now, families are being asked to use the main drop-off area near the playground. In a Facebook post last week, school officials said that there will be an exception for special education students, who may continue to use the circle drive to meet their teachers.
Tarnow told board members that the drop-off area was crowded Monday but was much better on Tuesday, and some more tweaks are being made today.
