Knox Water Superintendent Tim Lindewald recently informed Board of Works members about how much money the Department is saving thanks to some minor adjustments that were made at their building.
He explained, “We’ve been doing a little bit of maintenance to the building. Just with a little bit of work of insulating windows and caulking cracks, the last couple of months I’ve been able to save $500 per month, just on my NIPSCO bill.
He requested permission to seek quotes for exterior work to be done to the building in order to save even more.
Lindewald stressed that he realizes it will require some money to be spent initially but he believes the City will be able to make it all back with the savings they’ll see after the repairs are made.
He noted, “Nothing has been done to that building in quite a few years. Just by tuck pointing and fixing it up, you’re going to save the money that it cost in one year.”
Lindewald continued, “You can walk along that building and in a lot of places you can just feel that cold air coming through so in the long run it might cost a few grand but in the long run we’re going to save that within a year.”
The members provided unanimous approval for Lindewald to proceed with getting quotes for the exterior repairs.
