A La Porte County fugitive and a woman were arrested early Thursday morning following a stand-off with police in Michigan.
On Wednesday, Jan. 8 shortly after noon CT, members of the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team, along with the U.S. Marshal’s Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, went to a residence in the 33,000 block of Redfield Street in Cass County, Michigan to seek out a fugitive.
The fugitive, a woman and a child were found inside residence, according to a press release from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office. The fugitive reportedly presented a firearm which caused an officer to “revert to a position of advantage”. Police say a perimeter was established and local Michigan authorities were contacted for assistance.
The report states that negotiators communicated with the fugitive for several hours. The child was released shortly after 10 p.m. CT, according to police. At 2:32 a.m. CT on Thursday, Jan. 9, a tactical team made entry into the attached garage door of the residence. Police say the fugitive and the woman exited the residence shortly after the breech and they were taken into custody by members of the tactical team.
The fugitive was wanted by the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office on a petition of revocation of bond. The original charge was a Level 2 count of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. The fugitive was also wanted for failure to appear on a misdemeanor count of theft, and another failure to appear charge on a misdemeanor count of theft. The fugitive and the woman are facing additional charges in Cass County, Michigan.
Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
