In order to ensure that individuals who refuse to pay ordinance violation fines will be held accountable, Town Marshal Kelly Fisher has been coordinating with Ordinance Officer Kerry Rust, Town Attorney Justin Schramm and officials from The City of Knox and its court system.
Marshal Fisher discussed the matter with Town Council members when they Monday evening.
She noted, “So what we’re going to do is, [Ordinance Officer] Kerry [Rust] will issue the citations. They’ll stay in [Billing Clerk] Jennifer Vanek’s office for a timely manner for them to be paid. Once that time runs out, then we will take them over to City court and then they’ll process them like the do any other citation or ticket.”
Fisher mentioned that there will be a 30 day window for residents to come into Town Hall to pay their fine before it gets carried over to court. Fisher then provided some details regarding what will happen if the fine goes unpaid.
She explained, “They’ll be summoned into court and then once they come into court, if they do, then they can take care of it that way. If not, then eventually [officials will issue] a warrant or they may even suspend their license or they’ll have some bite to the ticket so to speak.”
Marshal Fisher said she hopes this will help address the ongoing issues they’ve had with unpaid ordinance violations.
