The Town of North Judson will have a required audit of its water infrastructure completed at no cost. The Indiana Finance Authority is now asking utilities to have a water loss audit done each year and get it validated every two years, according to Sarah Prizio with Commonwealth Engineers.
She told the town council last month that Commonwealth could do the work with money left over from the town’s water project. But this week, she told council members that the company is now offering to complete this year’s audit and validation for free, in appreciation for the town’s business with its water and wastewater projects. Council President John Rowe noted that Town Superintendent Joe Leszek was okay with the idea, and council members unanimously agreed to have Commonwealth do the free work.
But that still leaves about $20,000 in leftover money that the town can use for engineering services from Commonwealth. Prizio outlined a few things the company could do with that money, such as updating the town’s wellhead protection plan, creating a water model that could help the town address water pressure issues, or simply saving it for future years’ audits and validations.
She explained that the leftover money in the water project contract was due, in part, to an overlap with the wastewater project. Prizio reminded the town council that those funds do not expire.
