The City of Knox is urging landlords to register their rental properties. Mayor Dennis Estok says landlords are required to re-register their properties every year at a cost of five dollars.
“A lot of people aren’t registered,” Estok told the city council last week. “They’ll buy a house. They’ll rent it out, and you know what? They won’t register as a rental. And there’s a big fine for not doing that. I think it can go up to $500 for not registering your rental. So we encourage everybody to come in and get them registered and if not, we’ll find you.”
Estok said much of the city’s code enforcement action is on rental properties, and the registration helps city officials know who to contact.
