Visitors to the Knox Community School Corporation will now be greeted by a new electronic sign at Main Street and Redskin Trail. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart says the base was poured Monday and the sign was put into place on Tuesday. “So we have Busse Electric coming to hook up power, and as soon as we get the power hooked up, the sign will become active,” he says.
The school corporation purchased the message board from Vanadco Signs for just under $45,000. The cost will be covered by money from NIPSCO energy efficiency rebates, stemming from facility improvements in 2018.
Reichhart says the neon sign installation can be seen as the official start to the school corporation’s renovation project. The next step is the replacement of the floor and bleachers in the Weinberg Gym. Reichhart says that work will get underway after Saturday night’s basketball game.
Later phases of the $20 million project include new additions to the elementary and high schools, and the demolition of much of the elementary school’s Palmer Wing.
