North Judson Council Approves Grant Application for Franklin and Main Street Paving

The North Judson Town Council continues making arrangements to repave Franklin and Main streets, once sewer work wraps up there. Council members voted Monday to apply for a Community Crossings grant. It would cover 75 percent of the $196,000 estimated cost.

Fleis and VandenBrink Senior Project Manager Mitch Hansel said that was a bit of an increase from the initial estimate, due to the way the project is being split up with Commonwealth Engineers. Fleis and VandenBrink will oversee curb and gutter work, while Commonwealth’s contractor will still handle the sidewalks.

The project would cover Franklin from Sycamore to Main, and Main from Park Avenue to Oakwood. The town would have to cover $49,000 of the cost, but that would free up more than $115,000 that could be reallocated to other uses within the wastewater project.

Council members also approved a design contract with Fleis and VandenBrink for just under $5,000. Hansel said the plan is to be able to put the project out for bid as soon as the grant announcement is made next month.
