North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department Purchases Light Rescue Truck

The North Judson-Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department will soon replace one of its trucks. Fire Chief Joe Leszek told the town council Monday that the department was able to buy a 2011 International light rescue vehicle, with funding from the township as well as a department fundraiser.

“We’ve got plenty of equipment already to put in it,” Leszek added. “Our thought is to put all of our ice suits, we’re going to put some medical equipment in there, our new e-tools. And with this truck being in house now, we’re hoping it’ll lessen the load on Engine 1. We’ve been running, pretty much, Engine 1 on everything: structure fires, car accidents, you name it.”

The truck it replaces may be put up for auction. The town council discussed the idea of accepting sealed bids.

Leszek also said firefighters are still looking into options to replace the department’s Tahoe with another used SUV.
