After years of planning, the old Winamac Town Park restrooms will be torn down next week. “Monday or Tuesday, they’ll get the old restrooms down,” town manager and park board member Brad Zellers told the rest of the park board Thursday. “During that timeframe, I’m going to have a couple town employees at the gate. We’re going to close the park off while the contractor’s doing that, so there aren’t people going in, liability things.”
Park Board Member Chris Schramm added, “If anybody wants any photos or anything, get them now or forever hold your peace!”
Zellers said town employees have been busy getting the structure ready for demolition, which involved removing lights and security cameras. The restrooms will be replaced with new ones in the coming months.
It’s one of a few projects that will be funded, in part, by a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant the park board applied for back in 2018. That also includes new equipment for the toddler playground, a permanent cornhole court, frisbee golf equipment, new basketball backboards, and a new bench.
Park Board Secretary Kim Burke said she was going to get updated prices, since the quotes for the equipment are now two years old. Zellers said if prices are about where they were, the town will proceed with ordering it and determining a specific layout.
