The West Central School Board members plan to continue a discussion on a proposed sixth grade transition from the Middle/High School back to the Elementary School when they meet tonight.
The idea was brought up during the school board’s January meeting where school board members and principals talked about the age of sixth grade students and how they may or may not be better suited at either building, plus staffing, space, and timing.
The school board also plans to resume discussions surrounding homeschooled students and allowing them to participate in athletics at the school corporation. Superintendent Dan Zylstra commented last month that there is an interest in that kind of participation in the community at the middle school. Currently, there isn’t a policy.
In other topics tonight, the student count day will be reviewed as well as a department policy for drug testing. The school board will also consider the second reading of a naloxone policy.
The West Central School Board members will meet at 7 p.m. ET in the Corporation Office on Montgomery Street in Francesville, following a work session at 6 p.m. ET to go over capital projects.
