The North Judson-Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department will replace another vehicle, following action by the town council Monday. Council members agreed to let Fire Chief Joe Leszek purchase a Ford Expedition EL from Asia Motors.
“It’s got 70,000 miles,” Leszek explained. “They were asking $17,795 for it. Talking with them, since the town has purchased a couple vehicles from them, they said they would lower the price to $17,000, if we were interested.” It will replace the fire department’s Chevy Tahoe.
Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe explained that the department will be able to cover the cost with the increased revenue from Rich Grove Township calls last year. “The past year’s, I think we saw around $30,000 and $31,000 the year before,” Rowe said, “so with that contract garnering $46,200, you’re up $16,000 right there already, year over year.”
He said that so far, Rich Grove Township has paid $16,200, and Leszek expects the township to pay the remaining $30,000 in the next couple of months. Rowe reminded council members that an additional appropriation will be needed to spend that money, since it wasn’t included in the budget. Leszek said he continues talking with township officials about different options for the fire contract going forward.
The fire chief also reported that the department’s new light rescue truck is now in-house. The radio from the old truck has been moved over, and the decals will be installed in the next couple of weeks.
