North Judson Town Council Approves Replacement of Damaged Police SUV

The Town of North Judson has replaced one of its police vehicles, following a collision with a deer. Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe says it involved the department’s K9 vehicle, a 2014 Ford Explorer.

“It was on the right front passenger side,” Rowe explains. “There were no injuries, but as of February 24, Selective Insurance, our insurance provider, deemed the vehicle a total loss.”

The final insurance settlement came to just under $10,400, after the town’s $500 deductible was taken into consideration. Rowe says Town Marshal Kelly Fisher was able to find a similar vehicle for $12,000, making the town’s share of the cost a little more than $1,600. “She had looked around locally to see what was available, but in terms of price and mileage, Chicago Motors had a 2015 Ford Explorer, same color, same body style, all that, but with just over 83,000 miles,” Rowe says. “So it had a bit less mileage than we had accrued on the Explorer we purchased.”

The town council approved a purchase order for the Explorer during a special meeting last week. Rowe says the police department has since picked up the vehicle and is now in the process of moving lights and other undamaged equipment from the old one.
