Starke County EMS Gets Grant for a New Cot

The Starke County EMS Department is the recipient of a grant from the Starke County Community Foundation.

Starke County EMS Director Travis Clary told the county commissioners on Monday night that they received $17,500 from the Hardesty Memorial Fund to be used toward the purchase of a Stryker cot for one ambulance.

He suggested that they use that money toward cots to outfit all of the ambulances.  It would cost just under $15,000 per year to get new cots for the five ambulances on the fleet.  There would be no interest paid.

He mentioned that the current cots are over 16 years old and aren’t serviceable if they break as parts are outdated.

Starke County Commissioner Kathy Norem asked if there was a discount if the county paid in cash instead of making payments.  Clary wasn’t sure of that option, but would gather more information to present to the commissioners in a future meeting.

No decisions were made during Monday’s meeting, but the county was appreciative of the Starke County Community Foundation for the grant money award from the Hardesty Memorial Fund.
