Two people were hurt, when a school bus delivering meals apparently pulled into the path of a passenger car. The Starke County Sheriff’s Office says it happened just after 12:30 Thursday afternoon at the intersection of State Road 23 and County Road 200 North.

Police believe the bus was heading east on 200 North and had stopped at the intersection. But officers say the driver apparently didn’t see a car that was heading north on 23 and proceeded, and the car ended up hitting the bus. When deputies got there, they say the car was in the middle of the intersection with major front-end damage, while the bus was in a ditch along 200 North.

Officers say two of the three people in the car needed immediate medical attention, but none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. The bus’s driver and two passengers reportedly refused medical treatment from EMS personnel.

Police say the school bus was delivering lunches to students’ homes, since school is currently closed. No students were injured in the crash. The Sheriff’s Office isn’t releasing any names, since the crash remains under investigation.

Starke County EMS, the Washington Township Fire Department, the Koontz Lake Fire Department, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Knox School Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart, and other school staff members also responded to the scene.
