Kankakee Valley REMC’s Operation Round Up Trust organization recently donated $2,000 to area food pantries to help stock the shelves to fight against hunger during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kankakee Valley REMC Director of Marketing and Communications Amanda Steeb commented that the food pantries selected for emergency funding were organizations that are former grant recipients of the Operation Round Up Trust.
In all, $20,000 was donated to help food pantries buy needed items for families, children and seniors in need.
The funds were generated through the company’s consumers who voluntarily round up their bills to the next dollar. Those cents add up quickly and are used to award grants to organizations in the communities served by Kankakee Valley REMC which include Starke, Pulaski, Porter, Lake, Marshall, St. Joseph, and La Porte Counties.
