Knox city government offices will have more consistent operating hours, following recent action by the city council. Up until now, the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office and City Court stayed open until 4:30 p.m., while the Mayor’s Office and most county government offices closed at 4:00, according to Mayor Dennis Estok.
“What we’d like to do is put everybody on the same closing time,” Estok told council members. “We’ll open up at 8:00. We’ll close at 4:00. I always wondered why some of them stayed open to 4:30. There’s too many options to pay your utility bills. You don’t need to be there.”
Clerk-Treasurer Cyndi Mann-Kidder explained that her employees’ actual number of work hours will stay the same, since their lunch would be shortened to half an hour. Clerk-Treasurer’s Office employees are paid for 37-and-a-half hours of work per week.
All Knox city offices are currently closed to the public due to COVID-19, and city employees are under a paid workforce reduction.
