The Starke County Commissioners voted Monday morning to extend restrictions at the Bass Lake Beach and Campground and at the Starke County Forest.
Governor Eric Holcomb made the decision to continue the shelter-in-place order until May 1. The governor also signed an executive order on April 6 that closes all campgrounds until he rescinds the order. The commissioners agreed to keep the Bass Lake Beach and Campground closed until that time as directed by the governor.
Those who use campers as a primary residence may continue to shelter-in-place. County Attorney Marty Lucas said he received two letters from residents from the campground regarding the commissioners’ decision to close the facilities which will be further reviewed by the commissioners.
Residents may still access the Starke County Forest for walking, hiking, biking, or running, but there shall not be groups of more than five people. Activities shall be conducted at a social distance of six feet or more.
The commissioners will revisit these actions when the governor adjusts orders at the state level.
