Starke County Election Board Finalizes Early Voting Schedule

The Starke County Election Board has adjusted its early voting schedule for the June primary, to bring it in line with the condensed schedule set by the state.

In-person absentee voting will now be held Tuesday, May 26 through Saturday, May 30 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The last day to vote early will be Monday, June 1 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. In-person absentee voting will take place at the Starke County Courthouse.

Clerk Bernadette Welter-Manuel told the rest of the election board Friday that she expects early voting to be busier than voting on Election Day. Two shifts of poll workers will be used to cover the 10-hour daily early voting schedule.

Additionally, any eligible voter now has the option to vote by mail in this year’s primary. Applications are due to the Clerk’s Office by May 21.

Primary Election Day voting will be held Tuesday, June 2 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Starke County has combined its polling places into seven locations, but the county will still technically be using precinct voting. That means residents who vote on Election Day will have to use one specific polling place, based on where they live:

  • The Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox for voters in Center Township precincts 1 through 5 and Jackson Township
  • The North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Station for Wayne Township voters
  • The James R. Hardesty Fire Station and Community Center in Hamlet for voters in Davis Township, Oregon Township Precinct 1, and Center Township Precinct 6
  • The California Township Fire Department for voters in California and North Bend townships
  • The Washington Township Community Building for Washington Township voters
  • The Koontz Lake Property Owners Association Building for voters in Oregon Township precincts 2 and 3
  • The San Pierre Fire Department for Railroad Township voters
