Whether a Logansport meatpacking plant is doing enough to protect its workers was one of the issues addressed during state officials’ COVID-19 press conference Tuesday. An outbreak at the Tyson plant has caused the number of cases in Cass County to spike to more than 1,100.
Indiana State Department of Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lindsay Weaver said working with the plant’s management is a part of the department’s strike team’s response. “When we go and we do testing on-site, one of the other things we do is we talk with, whether it be a group home or in this case a business site, and talk to them about what can we do or what can you do to better protect your employees, and the plant there was very receptive to any kind of information, instructions we could give,” Weaver said
She added that the State Department of Health is also contacting everyone who tested positive at the plant, to outline the recovery process and make sure they have everything they need to take care of themselves.
