More information about what happens to people once they’re diagnosed with COVID-19 is being shared by the Indiana State Department of Health. During Friday’s COVID-19 briefing, State Health Commissioner Dr. Kris Box said that officials were able to analyze almost 8,000 of the state’s COVID-19 cases.
About 35 percent of those patients visited an emergency room, 26 percent were admitted to the hospital, and six percent were placed in intensive care. Box said that of those who were hospitalized, 68 percent have already been discharged. “Twenty percent are likely still hospitalized, and unfortunately, we know that 12 percent of those COVID-19 patients that were hospitalized are known to have died,” she added.
The average hospital stay for COVID-19 is almost nine-and-a-half days. Box said that those who were not admitted to the hospital are assumed to be recovering at home or already recovered.
