The Town of Winamac has issued its own order requiring the use of face masks in public. After the Pulaski County Commissioners Thursday ordered the use of facial coverings, the town council met to approve a similar measure at the town level.
Under the order, visitors to any type of business have to wear masks covering their nose and mouth. Employees have to wear masks if a customer is present or more than three people are working. Violators could be charged with a Class B misdemeanor.
The order specifically cites the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Pulaski County and some of its neighbors as a reason for the requirement. While Pulaski County’s face mask order was not scheduled to take effect until Friday, May 1, Winamac’s order took effect immediately Thursday. It remains in place until further notice.
Additionally, the Winamac Town Council is asking the town’s major retailers not to allow children under the age of 16 in their stores and to allow only one member of a household at a time, if possible. However, that recommendation is not an official part of the council’s executive order.
