Four Injured in Crash on U.S. 421 in Pulaski County Monday

Four people were hurt Monday afternoon in a crash at U.S. 421 and Pulaski County Road 200 South. A Hyundai Elantra was reportedly heading west on 200 South, when it pulled into the path of a Ford Econoline E350 that was heading south. The driver of the Hyundai, Samuel D. Jones, 29, of Mapleton, Illinois, reportedly told police that he didn’t realize the intersection wasn’t a four-way stop.

Officers say he only had minor scratches on his arm, but his wife, Allegra J. Jones, 27, was transported by EMS with a complaint of head pain, and their three-month old son was also transported with possible head injuries. Animal control reportedly found placement for two of his dogs, but a third ran away. The driver of the Ford, Andrew J. Lewis, 64, of Lafayette, was treated at the scene for minor arm scratches.

The intersection, near West Central Schools, has seen a number of serious crashes, and plans are in the works to convert it to a four-way stop. The Francesville police and volunteer fire departments assisted Pulaski County sheriff’s deputies at the scene.
