Knox High School has been doing its part to keep health care workers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. The school’s graphic arts department had made 400 face shields using 3-D printers as of the May 5 school board meeting, according to Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart.
“I know that we’re going to have some expenses involved because we ran through some extractor, they call it, but it’s money well-spent,” Reichhart told board members. “And for the $295 that it’s going to cost to repair them, it’s money that saves lives, so how can you put a price tag on that?”
One of the recipients of the face shields has been Starke County Emergency Medical Services. EMS Clerk Mary Lynn Ritchie, who’s also a school board member, thanked the graphic arts department for the help, noting that the EMS department had been running short on equipment for paramedics and EMTs.
