The Starke County Fair has reportedly been canceled due to COVID-19. In a post on the Starke County Fairgrounds Facebook page Tuesday, officials said Purdue’s stipulations for allowing fairs to proceed would have made things difficult.
That would have included keeping records of everyone who attends for contract tracing purposes, no livestock being kept in the fairgrounds overnight, and what fair officials call an excessive amount and frequency of sanitizing. They say that due to the layout of the Starke County Fairgrounds, the cost and availability of cleaning supplies, and the potential risk, they ultimately decided not to hold the fair this year.
Organizers added that “the 4-H we all know and love is not what this year’s fair would have looked like.” They said 4-H members should complete their books to finish the year, and a date for when the books will be due will be coming from the Extension Office.
