The Starke County Commissioners agreed to cut back on deliveries to two days a week for the Starke County Government Mobile Food Delivery Program beginning May 18.
The volunteers who are helping to deliver the boxes of groceries and hot meals are county employees who are back to work with a regular work schedule.
The deliveries will be on Mondays and Thursdays beginning Monday, May 18. Auditor Rachel Oesterreich said residents who are in need of this program will continue to get necessary groceries and hot meals.
If there is a surge, then it will return to five days a week.
The commissioners discussed that there is an overwhelming need for the program, but they’d like to prolong the program for as long as possible as funding allows.
The form is only live for about 13 minutes before it is closed because of the high volume of repeat requests. The administrators of the program do police some of the activity but hope that new residents can in get their requests. In order to allow for more residents to take part in the program, only one household may request delivery in a week. It is the hope to serve more of the county’s residents who are in need.
The form is available online at www.co.starke.in.us or call the Starke County Clerk’s Office at 574-772-9128.
