The 2020 Indiana State Fair has been canceled, but organizers still plan to hold a modified 4-H Livestock Show in August.
The announcement was made by the Indiana State Fair Commission and the Indiana State Fair Board Thursday. They say the decision was ultimately driven by the impact of COVID-19.
Fair organizers add that they’ve spent months working through various options, but key elements like venders and partners began falling off. They feel the scaled-back version will still allow 4-H members to be recognized for their hard work and dedication.
The State Fair Commission notes that this isn’t the first time the event has been modified or canceled. During the Civil War and World War II, the fairgrounds were needed to support the war effort. The full Indiana State Fair is expected to return in August of 2021.
