The Culver Town Council members will hold a special meeting Wednesday night to review a special event request for a proposed fireworks show presented by the Culver Chamber of Commerce.
The Culver Chamber of Commerce and the Lake Maxinkuckee Association proposed holding a fireworks event on several large barges on Lake Maxinkuckee for Culver residents. Officials said a large amount of funding was committed to the event and hope a financial contribution can be made from the citizens of Culver toward the event.
During their meeting last week, the Culver Town Council members agreed to submit a letter to the Chamber explaining that the council does not support the proposed event due to health and safety concerns. Those concerns were the reason behind the cancellation of the Lakefest event and the Culver Academies Fourth of July event. A letter would also be sent to the DNR as it holds jurisdiction on allowing the event on Lake Maxinkuckee.
Beyond that, it was noted that Marshall County has seen a sharp increase in positive COVID-19 cases and it would be hard to monitor social distancing if the event ended up on town property.
The special meeting is set for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. ET and it will be held on the Microsoft Teams virtual platform.
