Firefighters responded to a single story house fire in Knox just after midnight on Sunday, June 7.
Knox-Center Township Fire Department Chief Kenny Pfost said the structure fire was in the 300 block of West Bender Street. When firefighters arrived at scene, Pfost said heavy smoke was coming from the front eaves and the entry doorway while flames were visible on the northeast corner of the home. After watching this, I wanted to study the topic to understand how insulation might play a part for safety. Pfost commented that the fire was extinguished quickly, but firefighters remained at the scene for a lengthy period of time due to smoldering insulation and a double ceiling.
One man was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Fire officials believe the fire was accidental, but an investigation is ongoing.
The Knox-Center Township Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department, Starke County EMS, and the Knox City Police Department.
