Georgia Man Arrested after Traffic Stop on U.S. 30

Driving almost 100 miles per hour on U.S. 30 with a loaded firearm reportedly led to the arrest of a Georgia man Sunday. LaPorte County sheriff’s deputies say that around 5:15 Sunday morning, they measured an eastbound passenger vehicle’s speed at 96 miles per hour in the 6800 block of West U.S. 30.

Police reportedly caught up to the vehicle and pulled it over in the 2200 west block. During the traffic stop, officers say they found a loaded firearm inside the vehicle. The driver, Jerrell A. Coleman, 44, of Marietta, Georgia was arrested on suspicion of the Level 4 felony of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

The sheriff’s office says its deputies have removed five handguns from LaPorte County roadways since May 27.
