The need for the Starke County Government Mobile Food Program has decreased, but the program is still available to those who are elderly, unemployed or quarantined as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Starke County Auditor Rachel Oesterreich says the form is open on Mondays and Thursdays where 65 requests are typically submitted for the pre-packaged boxes from Five Star and hot food meals from area restaurants. Requests are limited to one per week per household which has helped a lot new families or individuals to submit requests.
The Starke County Community Foundation helped fund this program with $100,000 where $75,000 will be submitted to OCRA for reimbursement. The money that the county has budgeted for this program could last throughout the rest of this year, unless another surge occurs.
Deliveries are being made twice a week with volunteers from the county. For more information, call 772-9128 or visit the county’s website for the order form.
