The Starke County Commissioners read aloud from a thank you note from two residents who have benefited from the Starke County Government Mobile Food Delivery Program.
Commissioner Kathy Norem was grateful for the letter.
“They made a donation which went to the Community Foundation’s for this,” said Norem.
“Wow!” added Commission President Charlie Chesak.
“That’s cool,” stated Commissioner Bryan Cavender.
Norem continued, “I felt like it needed to be read into the record here and that you guys both needed to be aware of it. I thought it was wonderful and from the heart. I feel good about what we did and I feel like we made a nice impact on our community with that.”
The Starke County Government Mobile Food Delivery Program is available to Starke County residents who are affected by COVID-19. It is also available for the older population who may need help. There is room for people to sign up, but only one request per household can be made per week.
The order form can be found online at www.co.starke.in.us. There are options for boxes of groceries or a hot meal from a local restaurant to be delivered on Monday or Thursday. The order form is available throughout the workday on Monday for Thursday delivery and on Thursday for Monday delivery. The need has dwindled some as residents to return to work
So far, about $50,000 has been spent toward the effort since the program’s initiation in mid-April. Funds for the Starke County Government Mobile Food Delivery Program were made available through a grant from the Starke County Community Foundation. The county also received a grant for the program from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs for $75,000.
