Two people were arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop conducted by Knox City Police Department officers.
Knox City Police Chief Harold Smith said the traffic stop happened just before midnight on Friday, June 19, near the 1300 S. block of Heaton Street. Smith said the suspects, 41-year-old Kimberlie Frazier of Mishawaka, and 40-year-old Bryan Burkett of Edwardsburg, Michigan, were detained. Smith added that Burkett had an arrest warrant out of Elkhart County.
During the investigation, police reportedly found a large amount of narcotics inside their vehicle and in their physical possession.
Frazier and Burkett were booked into the Starke County Justice Center on preliminary charges of dealing in methamphetamine as a Level 2 Felony and possession of methamphetamine as a Level 3 Felony. Frazier has an additional misdemeanor charge of possession of paraphernalia and Burkett has an additional felony charge of obstruction of justice.
They remain in the Starke County Justice Center on surety bonds of $75,000 apiece.
The Knox City Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Starke County Sheriff’s Department.
Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
