In anticipation of more students being dropped off at the Culver Elementary School rather than riding the bus, Superintendent Karen Shuman asked the Culver Town Council members Tuesday for an additional drop-off point.
Shuman said it would be on the south side of the school along Lake Shore Drive.
Shuman explained, “We’re proposing just to make that parallel parking instead of how it currently is – kinda angled parking. But, that parking area would be closed between 7:45 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., between 2:45 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., and from 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Fridays during this school year.”
She said the traffic pattern may change in a year, but she’d rather be prepared.
The town council unanimously approved the request and agreed to change the parking ordinance to reflect that request. The ordinance will be presented at the next meeting on Aug. 11 for approval.
In the meantime, Town Manager Jonathan Leist said with the council’s blessing the parking lines will be adjusted and a handicapped parking sign installed before the beginning of the school year. Signs will also be installed to alert residents of the parking change and the new drop-off area.
