Starke County Clerk Bernadette Manuel updated the Election Board members on Wednesday that the e-poll books should be arriving soon. She said KNOWiNK representatives will let her know of the delivery date next week.
The e-poll books will replace the traditional paper poll books at the polling site. It captures an electronic signature from the voter after a state- or government-issued ID is scanned into the device. It reportedly keeps down potential fraud issues.
Manuel said a claim for half of the cost of the poll pads was submitted for consideration by the Starke County Commissioners in the amount of $22,055 out of the Cumulative Capital Development Fund. The commissioners will act The second payment next year would be $22,000.
Election Board President Marcia Bedrock asked where the e-poll books would be stored. Manuel indicated that they would be kept in the same secured storage area as the voting machines. KNOWiNK will do updates on the software as needed.
