Eastern Pulaski School Board Finalizes Highway Bus Stop Adjustment in Latest School Handbooks

The Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation is looking to improve school bus safety in its latest round of school handbooks. Superintendent Dara Chezem says school buses will load and unload on the door side only, when the bus is operated on a highway within town limits, eliminating the need for kids to cross the highway to get to the bus.

“There were two situations, one that was close to the hospital, there was one outside of town headed south, that we made those changes,” Chezem explains. “It will just require the bus driver to circle around one block in order to pick up those students. It’s not extending bus times more than a couple minutes.”

Meanwhile, Chezem says the student handbooks have been updated to remind middle and high school students of the penalties for vaping. “The principals discussed that if students are vaping within the school building, that they could be given a fine by the local police.”

The student, classified employee, and transportation handbooks for the coming school year were finalized by the Eastern Pulaski School Board earlier this month.
