LaPorte County is the latest place to order the use of face masks in public. Starting Friday, the LaPorte County Health Department is ordering everyone to wear a face covering when they’re in an indoor area that’s open to the public or an outdoor area where six feet of distance from individuals outside of their households can’t be maintained.
Exceptions include children under the age of three, individuals with certain disabilities, those whose doctors have advised against it, and bar and restaurant customers who’ve taken off their mask to eat. However, the health department says law enforcement will not be used to enforce the order.
In addition to wearing a mask, the health department says you should also wash your hands frequently, stay six feet away from those outside of your household, cover coughs and sneezes, and stay home if you’re sick.
The order takes effect at 12:01 a.m. on July 17 and will remain in effect until further notice.
