The Indiana COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program has already gotten thousands of applications.
“We opened the portal on Monday, July 13 at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time, and within the first 48 hours, we have received over 11,000 applications from Hoosier renters,” Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority Executive Director Jacob Sipe said during Wednesday’s COVID-19 press conference.
Renters who’ve lost income due to COVID-19 can apply for up to $500 a month for four months, to help with past or ongoing rent payments. The state has allocated $25 million in CARES Act funding toward the effort, enough to help about 12,000 households.
Sipe said renters can still apply at IndianaHousingNow.org or by calling 1-844-463-7468. The first payments are expected to start going out to landlords the first week of August.
