Range Road will be under construction starting Monday. Rieth-Riley Construction will be upgrading the road to hot mix asphalt between State Road 10 and Toto Road. The Starke County Highway Department was awarded more than half a million dollars in Community Crossings grant funding to cover 75 percent of the cost.
Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler said in a statement that the Range Road upgrade is one of the key components of the county’s 10-year truck route plan. The Highway Department calls the three-mile route a “key commerce corridor,” connecting Bailey’s Discount Center and Toto.
Prep work is scheduled to start Monday, with actual paving to begin Tuesday. The work is expected to take about two weeks.
Another hot mix asphalt project is scheduled to take place on County Road 250 North between Range Road and U.S. 35 later this year.
