The Starke County Commissioners were presented with a resolution Monday night that would give their approval of the Vote Center Plan adopted by the Starke County Election Board.
The resolution (below) states that on Aug. 5, 2019, the commissioners recommended to the Starke County Election Board to take the steps necessary to move the county to a Vote Centers. On April 8, 2020, the Starke County Election Board voted unanimously to adopt the Vote Center plan and to implement Vote Centers.
The commissioners reviewed that plan and unanimously approved the resolution as presented.
Starke County will have seven Vote Centers open on Election Day this November. Those locations include the Koontz Lake Property Owners Building, James R Hardesty Community Building in Hamlet, Washington Township Community Building, Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox, North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department, San Pierre Fire Department, and Bass Lake California Township Fire Department. Voters can vote at any of the Vote Centers as it is not precinct-specific.
A similar resolution will be presented to the Starke County Council members at their next meeting for consideration before the Vote Center Plan goes to the State for final approval.
The Election Board members will need to forward with the purchase of e-poll books at a cost of $44,055 with half of that money to be paid for in 2020 and the other half in 2021.
