Starke County Government Mobile Food Delivery Program Still Active

The Starke County Government Mobile Food Delivery Program continues to assist those who are quarantined due to COVID-19 and those whose employment may have suffered due to the shutdown of businesses due to the health pandemic.  The program also helps the older population in a time of need.

During the Starke County Commissioners meeting earlier this month, Auditor Rachel Oesterreich said that funding for the program comes from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs and grant funds awarded to the county form the Starke County Community Foundation and the Northern Indiana Community Foundation.

Orders on Mondays are delivered on Thursdays while orders on Thursdays are delivered on Mondays.  Hot food items and pre-boxed grocery items are delivered to one household per week.   The order form can be found on the county’s website at www.co.starke.in.us or call the Starke County Clerk’s Office at 574-772-9128.

As the program continues, the need for volunteers for deliveries increases.  Oesterreich said an application is available on the county’s website for a paid part-time delivery driver position.  The vehicle will be provided.  The driver needs to have a valid Driver’s License and have the ability to move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials, and must have regular attendance.  For more information, contact the Auditor’s Office at 574-772-9101.
