Starke County Sheriff’s Department Investigates Stabbing Incident

A man was stabbed in an incident at a home in Starke County on Saturday morning.

Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin says shortly after 6 a.m. the Starke County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 phone call regarding an unwanted guest.  Richard Clark, 23, reportedly entered the home of his child and ex-girlfriend through the rear door unannounced and found Michael Ruiz, 28, inside the residence in the 6,000 block of 25 North.  A physical altercation began where Clark attempted to strangle Ruiz, according to Dulin.  Dulin added that it was at that time when Ruiz stabbed Clark multiple times before Clark released his hold.

Clark was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.  No one else suffered any injuries.

The Starke County Prosecutor’s Office will determine if formal charges will be filed when Clark is released from the hospital.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Knox City Police Department, and Starke County EMS.

The investigation is ongoing.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
