Two local groups are bringing the arts to Starke County residents, thanks to Project Support Grants from the Indiana Arts Commission.
The Constellation of Starke Creatives Network was awarded $4,050 for a series of pop-up markets showcasing the work of local artisans. Those were originally planned to take place in various locations around the county, but COVID-19 has moved them online, with a larger in-person event now planned for next May. The creatives network says the grant may help with technology costs for the virtual events, as well as supplies, insurance, facilities, and marketing costs for the in-person market.
Meanwhile, the Starke County Youth Club also got $4,050 to help with its after-school arts programs.
The Indiana Arts Commission recently awarded a total of more than $2.8 million to 382 organizations around the state. In a press release, IAC Executive Director Lewis Ricci noted that arts organizations have been heavily impacted by COVID-19, and said “this funding will help them weather the storm as they continue to adapt to this new normal.”
