Bass Lake-California Township firefighters were called to a house fire at 6083 S. State Road 10 at Bass Lake Monday night.
Fire Chief Steve Ahlenius said a couple firefighters were traveling in the area around 10:45 p.m. when they smelled smoke. They found that the house was on fire and called for response. The fire was extinguished a while later and was deemed a total loss.
Ahlenius did not release a cause of the fire but said it originated by the electric meter base.
The Bass Lake-California Township Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Knox-Center Township Fire Department and Starke County EMS.
