Knox High School’s football field will soon be getting a video scoreboard. The school board Tuesday approved the purchase of the scoreboard from Daktronics for just under $150,000.
Athletic Director Greg Estok said it’ll be able to display live video, player profiles, and video ads, among other uses. “It’s got everything,” he told board members. “It’s like having a TV. The screen’s 28-foot by about 10-foot, right around there. So it’s a big one.”
Estok said the school corporation was able to get the scoreboard at about a 25-percent discount from the regular price. The company also agreed to add the play clocks for free, saving about $5,000 to $6,000, and provide a 22-year warranty. Estok said the company was willing to give Knox some incentives, as a way to help market its products to smaller schools. He hopes to have the scoreboard installed at Community Field by Labor Day.
The cost will be covered by the school corporation’s building project bond. $300,000 of that was freed up, when an anonymous donor offered to pay for upgrades to the high school track.
